What category of license is needed for a tractor?

Tractor transport refers to self-propelled vehicles, for which it is not enough to obtain licenses of categories “B” and “C”. Special equipment has complex functions and a design that is different from ordinary vehicles, so documentation is required to obtain a permit to operate such vehicles.

Types of special equipment
The right to drive a tractor is required for all persons working with the following types of self-propelled machines:
- Tractors;
- Trackless vehicles;
- Road vehicles;
- Excavators;
- Loaders;
- Snowmobiles.
They can only be managed if you have a certificate or temporary document issued after completing an internship at the company.

Tractor classification
This approach includes self-propelled vehicles, the main functional loads of which are:
- Most types of agricultural work;
- Road construction;
- Transport at enterprises;
- Engineering and construction work.
A distinctive feature is that they are slower than conventional cars while maintaining increased traction. There are also design differences. Main components of self-propelled vehicles:
- Body;
- Engine;
- Broadcast;
- Chassis;
- Control system.

Depending on the type of movement, tracked and wheeled vehicles are distinguished. The former work on primers, while the latter perform tasks on bitumen roads and are therefore more in demand in the manufacturing and road sectors. Wheeled vehicles have significantly reduced traction on loose soil, so to improve their functionality they are equipped with all-wheel drive. On the one hand, this is a plus, but on the other hand, wheeled vehicles significantly compact the soil when performing agricultural work.
What categories of rights are there for a tractor?
The starting group for the right to drive tractors depends on the category to which the self-propelled equipment belongs. There are currently six rights groups with four subgroups.

Group A
These include motorized vehicles capable of reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h. They are subject to restrictions on movement on public roads. There are four subcategories of vehicles:
- A1 – Self-propelled off-road vehicles capable of speeds up to 50 km/h. These include swamp vehicles, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles;
- A2 – self-propelled off-road vehicles weighing up to 3. 5 tons and with a capacity of up to 9 seats. The subclass of self-propelled off-road vehicles belonging to automatic transport includes all-terrain vehicles and mining dump trucks;
- A3 – Nine-seater vehicles weighing more than 3. 5 tons, not intended for use on public roads. These are special-purpose dump trucks and all-terrain vehicles;
- A4 – equipment with up to eight passenger seats. The fourth subgroup includes road trains, infiltration and rotation buses.
Group B
The first category is tractor rides with engines with a power of less than 25. 7 kW or 35 hp; includes Caterpillar machines and wheeled machines. These are a mini excavator, a mini tractor and utility vehicles.
Drivers who receive a category B license can drive tractors with subsequent cargo of various sizes and participate in loading and unloading equipment.
Group C
The most common are self-propelled wheeled vehicles with power from 25. 7 to 110. 3 kW or from 35 to 150 hp. These are the main models of tractor and backhoe loaders with trailed equipment of various weights and sizes.
Group D
Category D includes only wheeled tractors with engines exceeding 110 kW or 150 hp. This includes pneumatic agents, powerful front loaders and MTZ wheeled models. Another type is a vehicle for moving containers in ports.
Group E
Category E tractors include self-propelled tracked vehicles with internal combustion engines with a power of 25. 7 kW or 35 hp. This group includes basic tractors, excavators, bulldozers and snow blowers.
Group F
Category F includes self-propelled agricultural equipment or grain and forage harvesters with high power and lifting capacity.

Age restrictions for obtaining rights
Age limit for obtaining the right to drive a tractor, depending on the category received.
- A1- From 16 years old;
- B, C, E, F – from 17 years old;
- D – From 18 years old;
- A2, A3 – from 19 years old;
- A4 – From 22 years old.
Working categories
In addition to the opening of certain categories of rights, tractor drivers undergo regular certification and advanced training. After passing the exams and meeting the criteria, they are assigned a rank.
- 2 Category. Gives experienced tractor drivers the right to operate equipment under their control;
- 3 Category. Self-control, lifting and unloading work using special devices;
- 4 Category. Operating machines with power up to 100 hp, performing unloading and loading operations, warehousing and moving cargo over long distances;
- Fifth category; self-propelled vehicles with 100 hp engines. and more, such as Caterpillar excavators and bulldozers;
- Sixth category; Large self-propelled equipment with a power of more than 200 hp, tractors, bulldozers and control excavators.

Regardless of the category, they receive a tractor license only after special training in a licensed organization from Gostekhnadzor. Exams are taken in departmental organizations. If anyone tries buy rights to special equipment , then we must not forget that this does not comply with the legislation of our country.
