Mineral powders are produced from carbonate rocks by fine grinding in special equipment. It is used as an additive in the production of bitumen coatings. Adding the product to the bitumen mass increases strength, wear resistance and other properties.

What is mineral powder?
This product is a residue from limestone crushing. The most common form of mineral powder is dolomite or rock powder. High quality material means a high quality product.
Mineral powder is used in the production of bitumen. This product gives strength and density to road surfaces. The product is added to the bitumen mixture in strictly regulated quantities. The introduction of carbonate powder into the mixture extends the service life of the bitumen coating.
Coatings with the addition of carbonate powder are resistant to corrosion. The disadvantage of this product can be compensated by the addition of bitumen, which leads to an increase in bitumen costs and a decrease in quality.
This product is used to reduce bitumen to a thin film state. The introduction of mineral powder into mixtures increases the strength and heat resistance of concrete. In combination with bitumen resin, it creates an astringent effect and builds up the system.
The hydrophobic nature of the product ensures uniform distribution of the powder throughout the bitumen. It reduces water saturation of bituminous materials, preventing the absorption of atmospheric moisture and extending the service life of the road surface.

The production of asphalt concrete is also not complete without carbonate powder, which fills the smallest pores and creates a clogging effect.
Asphalt plants use two products – with and without surfactant activation. The activated product requires the creation of additional conditions for transportation and storage in warehouses.
Specifications
The product is finely dispersed and has a large surface area due to the small size of the particles included in its composition. Thanks to this structure, limestone products have adsorption properties. When the product is added to bitumen, it adsorbs onto the bitumen itself, giving strength to the bitumen coating.
The product is produced by finely grinding limestone and dolomite. To obtain an active powder, bitumen and surfactants are added to ordinary mineral raw materials.
GOSTG specification:
- The moisture content in the product is no more than 0. 5%;
- Expansion due to contact with bitumen resin does not exceed 1. 8%;
- The amount of substances insoluble in water is not standardized;
- The product is a dry powder without impurities;
- If storage and transportation requirements are met, its service life is unlimited.
The standards to which the final product is produced apply to both activated and non-activated powders. GOST 51129 – 2003 does not apply to products obtained from non-carbonate rocks.
This powder absorbs most of the bitumen when mixed with bitumen. Thanks to this, bitumen acquires the necessary properties. At the same time, the quality of the final material, i. e. bitumen coating is significantly improved.
This product is manufactured in accordance with the standard gost mineral powder the standard regulated by this GOST also applies to active powder mixtures consisting of dolomite, lime and other minerals. This standard does not apply to mineral mixtures obtained from non-carbonate rocks.
Species
The industry produces two types of products: activated and non-activated products. The use of one or another type of raw material is determined by the requirements of the technical specifications for the product. Currently, there are two brands of mineral powder on the market – MP1 and MP-2.
Mineral powder mixtures are also obtained by processing industrial waste, such as substandard concrete, broken bricks, etc.
Activated
Products contain additives of surfactants. These additives give the powder water-repellent properties. Surfactants are used as additives in active mixtures obtained by grinding various fossil and industrial wastes.
Surfactants give the powder water-repellent properties. The use of one or another type of raw material depends on the technical requirements for the finished finished product. There are currently two brands of mineral powder available – MP1 and MP-2.

Mineral powders come in different qualities. To improve the quality of the product, so-called chemical-physical activation occurs; It was this procedure that gave this type of powder its name. As a result of activation, the final product has beneficial properties such as hydrophobicity and improved adhesion.
Not activated
The name of this powder speaks for itself. Due to the fact that the product has not undergone the activation procedure, its quality may be slightly worse than the quality of activated analogues. Inactive mineral powders are produced from carbonate rock using special crushing equipment.
Classification by brand and state standard
Inactive materials are obtained from carbonates and crushed in a crushing unit. MP-1 grade powder is produced according to GOST R52129-2003.
Scope of application
Inorganic carbonate powder is the main component of bituminous concrete. Thanks to its unique properties, this component gives the bitumen the desired properties.
- FORS;
- Resistance to deformation;
- Resistance to strong pressure;
- Elasticity.
The addition of carbonate powder also extends the performance of asphalt pavements. This product has an unlimited shelf life.
Mineral mixtures are actively used in industries such as construction.
Road construction
Mineral powders are actively used in road construction due to their ability to convert bitumen into a thin-film state and increase the viscosity of bitumen concrete. Road surfaces to which mineral powder has been added are stronger and more durable.

Production of dry construction mixtures
This product is often used as a filler for building mixtures. Mixtures with carbonate powder additives should be applied in thin layers.
Adding to concrete
Mineral powder has a positive effect on the properties of concrete, to a certain extent increasing its strength and resistance to deformation. This product helps reduce moisture absorption. The quality of cement depends on the amount of carbonate powder. The more it is, the better the cement will be, and vice versa.
